burning hot cell phone bill

I could have bought a new car for how much I’ve paid Verizon for cellular service over the years.

Remember when text messages were .25 cents each and long-distance calls were $3 per minute?? Those were crazy days.

Once text messages and long-distance became “included,” it was really just added into an insane monthly bill. I remember thinking: my family’s cell bill is too high. How can I lower my cellular bill?

Just when I thought my discontent had reached its peak, they started outsourcing their customer service overseas and adding artificial intelligence.

A billing error that a local human being could've fixed in five minutes turned into a THREE-HOUR dumpster fire. No one knew what they were doing. I was repeatedly forwarded to agent after agent, put on hold, and misunderstood by the computer.

No one has that much time to waste. As a paying customer, it's also plainly disrespectful. Verizon had, over many years, come to take me, and all of my family, for granted.

I started reading articles on how to save money on cellular service in Sandy Springs.

We have all seen the ads for discount carriers like Visible, Mint, and USMobile. I even tested one of these many years ago to see if their $20/month unlimited calling and texting was too good to be true.

Well, fifteen years ago, it was. Coverage was spotty. Calls were dropped. It was not a reasonable option, so I just kept paying Verizon through the nose.

In 2025, I decided to revisit the discount carrier market, hoping the quality may have improved since way back when.

I’m sooo glad I did!

As a USMobile customer, I am TEN Times happier. My cell bill in Atlanta is 75% less than it was with Verizon. I discovered how to lower my cell bill without losing call quality.

What also surprised me was the customer service. I don't think any company's customer service is what it was fifty years ago, but I am much happier with US Mobile.

Their chat service is responsive, and the call center is open twenty-four hours, seven days a week.

Most of my inquiries are resolved quickly. The agents are polite, and even complex technical issues are less painful.

I started out on a month-to-month plan to make sure I liked the service. Then, I switched everyone close to me to an annual plan. The savings feel criminal, and I would never go back.

Many people can make this switch on their own, but it does require setting up new online accounts, changing the phone's SIM card, and choosing appropriate features such as multi-network.

Another reason people avoid changing carriers is that they think they’ll lose their phone number. That was true many years ago, but the law changed, and now you can take your cell phone number with you to a new carrier. The process is called “porting,” and while it requires attention to detail, it is doable.

If you would like me to review your, or a loved one’s, cellular and cable bills to recommend alternatives that better serve your needs, save you money, and offer superior customer support, please get in touch. Most clients save FAR MORE than what they pay me to make the switch.
