Computer Repair or Tech Support? Which One Do You Need?

technician choosing between computer repair and tech support

Calls I receive often begin with "my computer is broken." Frequently, the computer itself is fine.

The word "repair" covers two very different problems, and it's hard to know which one you have until we discuss it. Computer repair and tech support can be difficult to separate.

A cracked screen, a charging port that won't hold a cable, a fan that rattles: those are physical problems, and the manufacturer or an authorized repair shop is the right place to start. That work is outside what I do, and I'd rather point you to the right place than waste your afternoon.

Everything else usually lives in the software. A laptop that takes ten minutes to wake up, pop-ups that won't close, a browser that opens pages you didn't ask for, an email account that suddenly won't sign in. In these cases, the machine is typically healthy, but the settings may be misconfigured, email accounts may need rescuing, or the internet may be slow. I often diagnose and fix these problems right in your home.

Fixing the problem is only part of the visit. I also make sure your passwords, Wi-Fi, and internet connection are set up securely, so the same trouble is less likely to come back.

Do you need computer repair or tech support?

If your device powers on and shows you a screen, the problem is often software. If it doesn't power on, or something is visibly damaged, start with a repair shop. I specialize in residential device security (smartphones, tablets, and computers), usability and accessibility solutions, software training, AI tutoring, continuity and legacy account planning, safe internet access, device selection, and protecting your children from online threats. See the full list on Services & Pricing.

If your device is slow or showing pop-ups, my virus removal and software troubleshooting page explains what I do

From Sandy Springs to Chastain Park and Johns Creek, I come to you, analyze your devices and situation, and explain plainly what I find. If you're not sure which kind of problem you have, please contact me.
